Why join Stage Crew?

Go behind the scenes as part of the Tri-School Productions Stage Crew. Students work side by side with our team of professional designers to put on all aspects of each show. Sundays during production all students interested in stagecraft can join our Build Days, where the set is constructed, painted and dressed for performance. Students will be taught how to properly and safely use a variety of tools and learn theatrical painting techniques. Students can also work with lighting designers and learn the difference between various lighting instruments, how to hang and focus lighting instruments and run basic light board operations. If you’re interested in sound engineering, students can learn how to setup audio equipment, hang/run audio cables, understand microphone equipment, and how to properly mic actors as well as how to manipulate audio levels to obtain excellent sound quality.

Chosen from the most dedicated and hard working of the crew on our build days, our run crew takes on jobs during the run of the show, such as:

Deck Crew – working on the stage directly with sets under two selected deck managers, running scene changes and rigged drops/scenery

Sound – wrangling mics with the cast and operating the main sound board and running a variety of sound F/X

Lighting – operating spotlights from the projection booth and running our light board

Costumes – Working with our costume designers organizing, repairing and modifying costumes and running wardrobe

Props – setting and tracking props as the performance runs

Makeup – Work side by side with our Makeup Designer and apply makeup ranging from simple stage makeup to special f/x makeup and prosthetics

Our longest standing and most dedicated crew members can apply over the summer to become Stage Managers and Assistant Stage Managers for the following season. Stage Manager attends all rehearsals and build days, and sends out rehearsal reports. work side by side with the director and take blocking notes and act as a liaison between the director in rehearsal and the rest of the team, then run all aspects of the show once we’re in previews.

The Orchestra Pit

Students can apply to play in the orchestra pit for our annual spring musical. Student musicians will grow as they rehearse with our Music Director and play alongside professional, semi-pro, amateur and alumni musicians as they prepare for performance.
